Impact Of Scrubs On Patients

Scrubs are the outfits worn by doctors, nurses, midwives and all other personnel in medical hospital, clinics and institutions. They are an integral part of the daily routine of the medical community. They never leave the house without taking along their proper medical uniforms and scrubs. Scrubs include lab coats, shoes, socks, T-shirts, gowns, pants, caps, hats and stethoscopes. All these things are freely available these days at shopping stores. The best place, however to shop for these scrubs are online stores. Scrubs Inc is an online store which is especially renowned for its versatility in the best brands and a variety of printed apparel available.

The objective of this article is to discuss the impact of scrubs on the patients and how scrubs are an integral part in gaining the confidence and trust of a patient.  Many surveys have been conducted in the United States, so as to study the importance of scrubs in gaining the patient's trust.  According to most surveys, above 60 percent of the patients preferred doctors wearing proper medical scrubs and uniforms.  In one study, regarding the style of scrubs preferences, 76.53 percent people preferred physicians with white lab coats. 10.2 percent people preferred surgical scrubs. 8.8 percent preferred business clothes and only 4.7 percent preferred casual dress.

Patients also reported that they were more comfortable sharing their psychological, social and medical issues with a person who is properly and professionally dressed. Patients tremendously prefer doctors wearing white coats, than doctors wearing random colored or printed scrubs.

The patient-physician relationship is an important factor for the proper functioning of a medical institution, hospital or health clinic. The first impression of a doctor is developed on the patient by his verbal conversation and attributes such as clothing, cleanliness and properly ironed clothes. Psychologists have concluded that the first impression is always made on a person by the other person's appearance, be it a job, a relationship or any other form of job related meetings.

According to another survey, when the patients were asked to select the best physician, 52 percent opted for doctors wearing conventional white coats, 24 percent preferred scrubs, 13 percent preferred suits and only 11 percent preferred casual attire. These ratings basically suggest that scrubs identify a person as a medical professional, since scrubs have  performed much well than the business suits on all accounts.

However, appearance still isn’t everything necessary to make you a good doctor or physician. Your professional attitude is also very important. Infact good communication, attitude and professionalism have outweighed dress in terms of importance. As a professional, one must be aware of the affect that his/her dress code may have on the people in his surroundings. These people include patients , as well as your fellow colleagues.

Color of scrubs highly matters as well. Previously, all doctors used white colored scrubs. Later on they shifted to green because the blood stains on white colored scrubs appeared to be very disturbing to the patients and also gave an un hygienic look. Today one can get scrubs in all sorts of colors, prints, styles and sizes. As mentioned before, the best place to shop for these are Scrubs Online Store
