Scrubs
and uniforms were not considered an important part of the medical
profession until recently. Previously, some of the nurses in health care
centers and hospitals wore uniforms. However, surgeons never considered
clothing important while performing surgeries and they often did so in
their regular clothes. They never used protective, sterilized or clean
garments. In the beginning of the 20th century, as awareness about
infections and bacterial diseases increased, the surgeons and medical
personnel started paying a little more attention to their surgical and
medical apparel. Eventually, the tradtion of wearing an apron or a
protective white cloth while performing surgical procedures came into
existence. At that time, the intention was not to protect the patient,
but to protect the clothing of the doctors and prevent them from blood
stains.
During
1918, many bacterial infections began to spread, which raised the
awareness of the spread of infection. Most doctors and surgeons started
wearing cotton gauze masks. Once again, the purpose was to protect the
surgeon from the patient's diseases, rather than the protection of the
patient. By the 1940's, the tradition of wearing these aprons and masks
in the surgical ward became a routine, in order to prevent the
infections and harmful bacteria from spreading. As a symbol of
cleanliness and purity, the attire used in the operating room was white
in color.
The
disturbing combination of white surroundings and white apparel, along
with the bright lights used in the operating room cause eye strain on
the surgeons and the medical staff. Therefore, around the 1960's, the
surgical ward attire eventually changed from white to different shades
of green. Green Attire had a number of benefits including the reduction
of eye strain, high-contrast working environment and less visibility of
the blood stains. In the 1970's green scrubs became a standard and
foundation for the scrubs worn by medical staff in hospitals today. They
are made of durable fabric so as to absorb blood and other body fluids.
Surgical Scrubs are mostly owned by the hospitals due to the
cleanliness and sterility issues. However, some medical personnel buy
their own scrubs from medical equipment stores. Scrubs can be easily
found at any Clearance Scrub Sets as well.
The
standard green scrub attire did not allow to distinguish between staff
of different departments or even differentiate between the positions of
doctors or nurses. Due to this, non surgical scrubs became a standard
uniform for other healthcare staff. Today, these uniforms and scrubs are
available in a variety of colors, prints, cuts, styles and sizes. This
helps in clearly distinguishing the staff of different departments. For
instance, the staff of the pediatrics department wears cartoon printed
scrubs in order to keep the children cheerful and distract them from the
depressing environment of the hospital. In the veterinary clinics, the
staff wears scrubs with animal printed tops. Assistive personnel and
staff normally wear single colored scrubs.
Today,
Scrubs and Uniforms are worn by almost all the medical staff working in
hospitals, clinics, surgical wards and veterinary clinics. Clearance Scrubs Free Shipping
provide a variety of scrubs from different brands at very reasonable
prices. Physicians, even today wear their traditional white lab coats
over their normal clothing with the exception of performing surgeries or
other procedures where their clothes are prone to blood stains.
